Happy New Year… and it will certainly be a great year for dallas home builders. As I walked into a meeting at the Dallas Home Builders Association the other day, I noticed a very familiar picture on the front page of the Home Improvement Magazine. One of our custom built homes made it on the front page in the January 2011 issue 
I would like to congratulate Home Improvement Magazine for interviewing home builders and writing on the subject of sustainable home improvement, but most importantly, for delivering a well researched and well written article on the subject. With insights from myself, as well as such experts as Carl Seville & Brian Phillips – both respected home builders on a national level – this article provides some solid information and guidance about the current state of green building, as well as the direction it is going.
From the article: “Obviously, lower utility bills and operation costs have become a focus of the sustainable building movement because of ever- increasing energy costs in the United States,” says Marc Kleinmann – one of the home builders interviewed – and president of EGC Custom Homes in Dallas. “But one of the most overlooked aspects of an energy-efficient home is comfort. Efficient homes don’t have the drastic temperature changes regular homes have. How many homes do you know that feel too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter even though the thermostat is set to75? That’s because the house drafts cold or hot air from the outside, and it always feels uncomfortable. Well-designed and well- built homes don’t have that issue and feel comfortable year-round.”
